A man named William Chester Minor aided in the making of The Oxford English Dictionary, one of the first notable dictionaries in the world, by compiling an enormous quantity of words with quotations and definitions on call. He compiled lists of every instance of every word in all the books he owned, and was by far the most efficient of the volunteers for the OED. Without him, The Oxford Dictionary would have never been. William Chester Minor did all of this while being incarcerated in Broadmoor Asylum for the Criminally Insane.
